Planet of the Bobs. By Steve Willis.

One-sheet comic strip by Steve Willis, signed “Art Laboe” (one of Willis’ pen names). 6 panels, 8” x 10 ½”, unframed, done in sharpie and blue non-repro pen on drawing paper, undated but from the late 1980s, previously purchased from Michael Dowers (then publisher of Starhead Comix). The strip was reprinted by Willis in “Morty Without Tears and Planet of the Bobs!” in 1989, and originally appeared in The Cooper Point Journal between April-June, 1987.

According to Michael Dowers: “Art Laboe is one of Willis’ pennames. He was obsessed with this name for a long time. Read his comics and you will come across Art Laboe a bunch. I think especially in his earlier days like 79 to 82 or 83. He thought it was hilarious. This is typical of Willis. All of his comics and stories are ideas he thought were hilarious. I guess he could drive completely nuts at times. So Art Laboe is Willis.”
