“Classical”. Artist unknown. On the back of a Neo-classical Revival bank building located at 45 Church Street on the corner of Crown Street in New Haven, Connecticut. For almost 90 years it was the home of the Connecticut Savings Bank. The bank was designed by Egerton Swartwout, an early employee of McKim, Mead & White and a 1891 Yale College graduate. It was completed in 1906 to designs by architects Gordon, Tracy, and Swartout of New York.
This back, outside wall of the former bank is now painted white. Photo by Philip Rubin, 1992.
(The painting mirrored the original appearance of the interior of the bank; see, also the exterior.)
