Gibson Les Paul Standard 1959 Collectors Choice #35, aka Vic Dapra Gruhn Burst, 2016
Gibson Guitars, serial number: CC 35A 053, 2016.
Seller’s Comments: “This is an awesome 2016 Gibson Les Paul Standard Collector's Choice #35 Gruhn Burst 1959 from Crossroads Guitars USA. For years I’ve been a collector and seller of the Gibson Collector’s Choice Les Paul models. From the Collector’s Choice #1 Gary Moore Aged 1959 Les Paul and many others in the Collector's Choice series. That said, the CC#35 Gruhn Burst is by far the closest thing I’ve seen to having a truly precise replica of an original Gibson 1959 Les Paul Standard than any previously factory built Gibson 1959 Les Paul reissue model I’ve ever owned. This is an exceptionally fine hand-crafted Gibson Custom Shop creation that was built to replicate and precisely model the original Gibson 1959 Les Paul Standard serial #9 0627 that Burst collector Vic DaPra was able to acquire in 1984. DaPra was hugely involved in the build details and final approval process of the CC#35 Gruhn Burst model and I must say, few if any other individuals on the planet are more qualified to know the fine details of an original Gibson '59 Les Paul Standard than Vic DaPra. This exceptional beauty is mint and unplayed beyond my personally plugging it in to my amp to verify the electronics were functioning as designed. This guitar features an awesome and unique flame top with flecks, grain, and killer Custom Shop hand aging. The CC#35 features all of the true historic specs i.e., double carved top for an authentic vintage dish profile, double carved neck for the precise and accurate profile and ideal playability, hide glue top construction, and rolled neck binding for great playability and feel, specially wound Custom Bucker pickups and a very dark one-piece Indian rosewood fretboard, long neck tenon that provides superb sustain and much more, all culminating in a fantastic looking and great sounding guitar to add to your arsenal of axes and collection of Gibson 1959 Les Paul Standard models whether reissues or vintage, you will not be disappointed in the performance of this beautiful CC#35 Gruhn Burst model! The CC#35 Gruhn Burst models were built in very limited numbers. It weighs just that perfect weight of 8 lbs. 8 ounces on my digital scale. The C shaped neck measures .900 at the 1st fret & 1.00 at the 12th fret. The truss rod works perfectly and the neck is arrow straight with no cracks, repairs, or mods. It comes with all factory original documentation and case candy.”
Personal note: I purchased this guitar from Crossroads Guitars USA (aka Crossroads Guitar Gallery), Dallas, Texas, in January 2018. The closest that I would ever get to a 1959 Les Paul Standard.
