Mike Kott, of Intergalactic Trading: “Vintage Vaughn Bode Collection. Lizard of OZ poster. The story of this poster is legendary. In the mid 1970s, Vaughn auctioned off a convention sketch of the bidder’s choice at a NY comic convention. The winner asked for Cheech Wizard on the Yellow Brick Road. Vaughn was doing the sketch that evening and liked the idea so much he got carried away and did a multi-character colored painting! Everyone was blown away by it the next day. The producer of the poster (Martondon) was a combination of “Don” who obtained the artwork, “Tony” who arranged the printing, and “Marty” who put up the money. They printed 1000 of these on a nice pebble grain stock and almost all were sold during the next few years. We at Intergalactic had a small quantity of these back in the late 1970s that we got from “Tony” the printer. Every once in a while one shows up in our warehouse hidden for decades.”
