Adventure Film - test page

In 1954, Haskins Laboratories was featured in an episode of the CBS television documentary show “Adventure” hosted by Charles Collingwood, and co-sponsored by the Museum of Natural History The episode consisted of two segments, the first about research at Haskins and the second about Bali. The video on this page is a short version of what has become known as the “Adventure” film, showing only the Haskins segment of the episode.

The “Adventure” film features Frank Cooper, Alvin Liberman and Pierre Delattre demonstrating the use of the Haskins Pattern Playback.

Please note that the quality of this video is not good because of multiple transfers over the years from film to videotape and then to digital form.

The original Pattern Playback now resides in the museum at the Haskins Laboratories, in New Haven, Connecticut.

This is a legacy demo intended to capture a bit of this history of Haskins Laboratories.

NOTE THAT THIS IS A TEST PAGE to demonstrate 2 different methods for displaying videos on SquareSpace.

  1. Click here to see the Adventure Film via YouTube.

  2. The Adventure Film below is displayed via my Google Drive account. Note that this is done using embedded code in a “Code Block” (which is pretty easy to do), and you don’t have to know how to code, just copy and paste the code from Google Drive. To do this, you need to have the SquareSpace Business Plan. That is the plan that I have — I pay ~$220 per year.

Note that you can also start the YouTube video by clocking on a still picture like the one at the top of this page. Try it.

Note, also, that I will be adding the Adventure Film page today (not this test page) and I will be using the Google Drive method.
